About Me

Hi! My name is John Jett and I’m a graduate student pursuing my Ph.D. at West Virginia University in Morgantown, WV, USA. My projects fall under the broad areas of drug discovery and nanotechnology, both exciting areas of science to be studying in the 21st century!

I have established The Civic Scientist Blog for a variety of reasons, the first being to spread the word about the ideal of the the civic scientist. This term was originally coined by Dr. Neal Lane while he was serving as Director of the National Science Foundation to identify scientists and engineers who actively engage in dialogue with their community members. Of course, you can also extrapolate this to mean those scientists and engineers who actively work to affect public policies in a positive way based on their understanding of scientific issues that affect the community at large.

Please feel free to email me if you have any questions at john@thecivicscientist.com.

Welcome to the blog!
